Paradise Maui Weddings in Hawaii

Today’s date reminded me that I needed to do some basic work on how Google sees my sites. I’ve been working on my home page a lot lately, trying to update from the unruly behemoth of the last two decades into a lean, mean, Paradise Maui Weddings in Hawaii machine. Oddly enough, the words you actually have on the page still make a big difference to Google, even in this day of algorithmic love for links. Back in those last two decades that ParadiseMaui.com/weddings/index.html has existed, I used to be able to make sure that I had the right keyword density on the page, and Google would love me. Those days are gone. Now that the Google Bot has gotten a college degree in web literature, it understands related words, and it wants to see them. If it just sees the same words repeated enough times to get some level of density, you’ll be ignored. It’s like the bot is grading essays, and vocabulary counts.
Paradise Maui Weddings in Hawaii
I’ve been using a great tool to help you get a feel for your cloud of keywords: Wordle. Here’s the ParadiseMaui.com Wordle image, on the right. Click through to see the better detail, but even this thumbnail reveals that I’ve managed to increase my Hawaii influence, which used to be small, and thereby increase the Maui Weddings relevance. This is a measure of density mostly, but if you click through, you’ll get a whole bunch of other words about ParadiseMaui.com, including maui wedding packages, specials, marriage certificates, Honeymoon packages, maui wedding photography, and photographs. Also included on the page, but not in this Wordle, are Maui Wedding Receptions, all inclusive, affordable, and more.

When the Google Bot sees the page, with prominent h1 and h2 tags claiming this site is about maui weddings, it then expects to see a whole cloud of words that fit into that category. These Wordles are a great help with that. Most of you might be surprised to see that the most prominently featured words on your sites or blogs are not the ones you thought they were. Wordles are a great tool to help you see what your site is about, and to point you in the direction of the content you really want. In my case, I mentioned Hawaii a lot more than I wanted or needed to (since I have a whole site about Maui Hawaii), and hadn’t stressed all the other words that are components of Hawaii Weddings on Maui. Thanks to Wordle, I’ve fixed that. Now I just have to do it for all my sites, and that, I’m afraid, is going to take more than one information day.

Maui Weekly Weddings Mention

We recently got good press about our Maui weddings business at Paradise Maui. Recently, we got a mention for our Maui weddings in our favorite Hawaiian newspaper, the Maui Weekly.

Anyway, I digress. We recently added green Maui weddings as an option and that apparently caught the eye of the editors of the Maui Weekly website, so they gave him a one page blurb, which is very nice coming from a site like theirs.

Our Hawaiian weddings packages handle everything you need for a beautiful wedding ceremony on Maui, whether you want a beach wedding, a mountain wedding, or a waterfall wedding. You pick the place, and our people take care of every detail.

Maui Weddings in Hawaii - Keali'i Reichel

The Road That Never Ends

Here we are
In This holy place together
Bearing witness as the two of you
Become man and wife.

On this day
As you join in heart and spirit
You begin another chapter
In the book of life.

Love is a circle that surrounds you
You can find it on the faces
Of your family and friends

Love, let it wrap its arms around you
And guide you on your journey
Down the road that never ends

There's a song in your hearts
You can hear it if you listen
As it whispers through the branches
High above the family tree

And as time
Plays its melody upon you
You can rest assured in knowing
That you're right where you should be

Love is a circle that surrounds you
You can find it on the faces
Of your family and friends

Love, let it wrap its arms around you
And guide you on your journey
Down the road that never ends

Love is a circle that surrounds you
You can find it on the faces
Of your family and friends

Love, let it wrap its arms around you
And guide you on your journey
Down the road that never ends

Should you use a Maui Wedding Planner?

Unless you are familiar with what Maui has to offer, a full service maui wedding planner is highly recommended. Besides making all the arrangements for you (something to consider if you're trying to make phone calls from a different time zone and racking up huge long distance charges in the process), they'll be able to keep an eye on costs.

Be sure to look for a planner who is flexible, easy to understand, and prompt in their replies to you. A good planner should be able to accommodate your personal preferences.

Ask a potential wedding planner who they typically use for flowers, photography, officiants, etc. It's vital that you know all the players in this most important event!

If you're not entirely satisfied with the person or company the planner recommends, then make your OWN suggestions. It may cost you a little more to get the photographer, floral designer or musician of your choice, but the payoff can be great!

When planning a destination wedding Paradise Maui Weddings is your answer.

Weddings in Maui Requirements

A marriage license agent for the State of Hawaii will issue your license. Both the bride and groom must be present when the license is issued. You each must present a valid picture I.D. (drivers license or passport), and applicants 19 or under must have written parental or legal guardian permission. There is no waiting period, no residency requirement and no blood tests or shots required.

The license is good for thirty days. The fee is $60.00 in cash. Your birthplace, the names of parents and final divorce decree information, if applicable, will be required on the license application.

An appointment to obtain the license should be scheduled directly with a licensing agent, located on all islands in Hawaii. For agent contact information, call the local office of the Hawaii State Department of Health:

Maui: (808) 984-8210
Lanai: (808) 565-6411
Molokai: (808) 553-3663
Kauai: (808) 352-3498
Hawaii: (808) 974-6008

The central marriage license office is located in Oahu at the Hawaii State Department of Health, Kinau Hale, 1250 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. Recorded information is provided by phone (808) 586-4545. The office will send a “Marriage License Application” packet to interested parties from out of state.

The person performing the marriage must be licensed by the State of Hawaii Department of Health. Upon completion of the ceremony, the officiant sends the marriage license directly to the local Department of Health Registrar, to be filed as the official marriage certificate with the State Registrar and Vital Records Section.

The certified copy of the marriage certificate is mailed to the married couple approximately 120 days after receipt from the officiant. If the certified copy is needed sooner, the marriage license agent will provide a request form, which can be mailed to the Vital Records Section along with a $10 fee charged by the Department of Health for this service.

Maui Weddings are the most romantic events in Hawaii.

What's the procedure for obtaining a marriage license in Hawaii?

The Hawaii Department of Health web site goes into full detail concerning the requirements. Below are the main points...

HOW TO APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE

The prospective bride and groom must appear together in person before a marriage license agent to apply for a marriage license. Proxies are not allowed.
The prospective bride and groom should be prepared to provide the necessary proof of age and present any required written consents and approvals. All of the necessary documents should be obtained prior to applying for a marriage license.
The prospective bride and groom must prepare an official application (you can fill most of this out before you get to Hawaii) and file the application in person with the marriage license agent (this must be done on Maui).
Upon approval, a marriage license is issued at the time the application is made.
The marriage license costs $65.00, payable in cash at the time the application is made.
The marriage license is good only in, but is valid throughout, the State of Hawaii.
The marriage license expires 30 days from and including the date of issuance, after which it automatically becomes null and void.

Maui Weddings :: WHERE SHOULD WE STAY?

Maui contains about 728 square miles of land. So now that you’ve decided that you’re definitely on your way to the island, the next step is to figure out what piece of that land you’ll be copping a squat on during your stay.

The island is broken down into six different localities: North, South, East, West, Central and Upcountry. Do to factors like trade winds, mountain ranges and varying levels of elevation you will find many different types of climates on this little lava rock that we call Paradise. Like everything, each section has its pro’s and con’s.

Here’s the run down…

Northside: Paia Town, the surfing, kite surfing and windsurfing hotspot of the universe is located on Maui’s North Shore. Paia sits right at sea level so it tends to get hot…but that’s what you’re looking for, right? The weather is generally dynamite…lots of sun, nice trade winds, and the beach is so close to the town’s main strip that when you’re walking the street you can sometimes hear the waves crashing and feel the light spray of the sea.

Shacking up in Paia is for the adventurous “I love the feeling of sand between my toes, and salt on my skin…all day long” kind of person. You also have to be pretty open minded to appreciate all that Paia has to offer… Paia is not for the faint of heart or those that are easily offended. Out of all of the spots on the island, Paia is truly a melting pot of different cultures. Modern day hippies with designer patchwork pants, old time hippies wearing tie die clothes that you would swear haven’t seen a washing machine since the early seventies, tattoo artists dripping with body jewelry, tan locals hitching a ride with a soda in one hand and a boogie-board in the other, golden Europeans sipping lattes, tourists from all over the world enjoying the hustle and the bustle…you name it, Paia’s got it.

So if you’re one that likes to explore and take in the true modern culture of another place, loves the beach, likes feeling sticky and salty twenty-four hours a day, has a serious caffeine addiction (i.e. coffee available around every turn…but no Starbucks), is attracted to hip and novel shopping experiences, and/or enjoys walking around town half-naked (or watching the people who do) Paia is the place for you.

What you will not find is a luxury resort or a soul that gives a hoot that your khaki’s are now covered in “red dirt” (from the near by cane fields) stains. But you will find several great bed and breakfasts that will take great care of you and ensure that you’ve got great beach access and don’t miss a second of the fun that this individualistic town has to offer. For North Side accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Southside: Kihei, Wailea and Makena…Some of Maui’s preferred vacation nooks are located on the south side of the island. Kihei, Wailea and Makena are the spots of the island that you will usually see advertised as “Maui”. Beachside condos, tourist traps, luxury resorts and spas, “shave ice”, open air markets, umbrella drinks, suntans to kill for, sunburns to die from, bikinis, roller-bladers on side walks. Kihei is reminiscent of a clean Southern California boardwalk. Wailea is 100% luxury. Makena is old Hawaii meets a million dollars. If they were sisters, Kihei would be the Party Girl. Wailea the Aristocrat, and Makena the Earth Mama in Prada.

The weather is dry out in Kihei, perfect for slathering on tanning oil and sizzling away till your heart’s content at one of the awesome, family friendly beach parks. The beaches in Kihei are filled with locals and visitors year round. You will not find privacy on the sands of Kihei, but you will find great weather, generally low wind and nice swimming conditions, and lots and lots of people watching.

The main type of accommodation in Kihei is the condo rental. You can find anything from super-budget to high-class. Most are located just a hop skip and a jump from the beach and are close to fun activities and nightlife. For Kihei accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

As you head out further south toward Wailea you’ll notice a climate change…the grounds get lush, there’s a lot more shade, and the breeze is definitely cooler. We locals can’t quite decide if it’s because of the mountains back-dropping Wailea or just great planning skills by developers. I guess it doesn’t really matter, because whatever it is, it works. Wailea is the type of place that makes you say, “Ah, luxurious”. It’s also the type of place that will bleed the money out of your wallet before you even know your cut. But if your budget allows it, please take our word for it…if you want to feed your island fantasy, Wailea is the place you’ve got to be.

Wailea is the home of the luxury resort, luxury dining, luxury shopping, luxury lounging, luxury golf, luxury beach…get the picture? What you won’t find in Wailea is a ton of locals (unless we’re working at the resorts)…the truth is that Wailea is just really expensive and most local people can’t afford to live or play there. But it is beautiful, and when we do get out there it’s usually to play tourist just like you. For Wailea accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Even further South from Wailea is Makena…a beautiful, almost “off the beaten path” kind of place. Oneloa Beach (Big Beach) is arguably one of the best beaches in the world. The beach is huge (3,000 feet long), with three entrances and paved parking areas. Parking can be hard to come by, but the frustration is worth it. The parking lots may seem packed, but I promise that you’ll be able to find your own little section of nautical heaven on the beach. Makena Beach is cozy, grand, romantic and basically a bunch of fun. Back in the late sixties and seventies hundreds of transients set up camp on the beach and called it home. When you dig your toes into the sand, you’ll know why…you’ll want to live there too.

Makena has a “shore break” meaning that the waves break right on shore. This means that ocean fun should consist of frolicking around in the waves, body boarding, skim boarding and body surfing…it’s not a place to surf…don’t do it. I once saw some poor people attempting to long-board there and it wasn’t a pretty picture. Most of all, it was very dangerous. Remember, if you’re going to Makena bring fins, not a surfboard. Consider yourself warned. (There are a few sections of Makena that are okay for surfing, but only for people who know the waters extremely well)

As a note, head out to Makena beach first thing in the morning. On a typical day the clouds begin to roll in at around three in the afternoon.

Makena is basically the beach; an island get away at it’s finest. You can find a vacation rental in Makena, usually with a hefty price tag and a high minimum stay. The greatest thing about Makena is that you have the feeling of seclusion while being just minutes away to the “more happening” Kihei and Wailea. For Makena accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Upcountry: Upcountry, Maui is my favorite place on the island. Nestled on the slopes of Haleakala, it is truly a section of the island that offers tranquility, inspiration and healing. Because of its elevation level, the climate Upcountry tends to be very different from the rest of the island—cool breeze and lots of eucalyptus, pine and jacaranda trees. The air is different here up on the mountain—cleaner, fresher, thinner. There are often refreshing daily showers that bathe the abundant pastureland until it shimmers. Upcountry is a place to escape to, a place to listen to your heart.

Makawao Town is the center of it all. In fact, local residents have dubbed it “The heart of the Planet”—the place where all good energy circulates. It can be a fantastic spot to vacation. It’s conveniently located just fifteen minutes from the airport, fifteen minutes from the beach, and only about thirty-five minutes from the resort areas of the Southside. The perk is that while you’re close to everything, you’ll still feel like you’re a million miles away.

Makawao Town has a handful of high-end boutiques, salons, natural health practitioners, a general store, bakery, and even a medicinal herb shoppe. Think: the Beverly Hillbillies find Buddhism…

If you want magic, in the figurative and literal sense, body and soul conscience Makawao is the place to be. Common sights are cows (named “happy cows” by the local dairy), quaint, old buildings erected in the days of the Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy), locals horseback riding down the road, kids of all backgrounds and ages cruising the sidewalks, old guys playing chess, a musician on the corner strumming on his guitar…

Makawao is special; eclectic like Paia but more refined. The people are friendly and will chat your ear off for hours if provoked.

You won’t find a real fancy place to stay here, but there are a lot of clean, comfortable, historic bed and breakfast’s that are run by some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable hosts on the island.

If you’re a reader, writer, artist or hopeless romantic you’ve got to stay in Makawao. For Makawao accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

As you head further up the hill toward the summit of Haleakala you’ll reach Kula. Kula is a very quiet, minimally developed (besides local residence) area of the island.

Kula is the crème of the crop. The Realtors are always saying, “location, location, location”. You’ve heard it, haven’t you? Well, Kula’s high elevation, and low rolling hills provide the best, and I mean the best views of the island. On a clear day you can see all of Central Maui, North Maui and South Maui, Molokini Crater along with the island of Lanai, Kaho'olawe and sometimes Molokai—beautiful in the day, stunning at night. It’s also a fantastic place for stargazing.

The problem being that if you’ve come to escape the cold, Kula may not be your first choice. Most of the time you’ll need a space heater or fireplace (yes, year round) to be comfortable at night. If you like getting bundled and cozy to sleep, rest assured that by mid morning the temperature will be comfortable and by mid afternoon it’ll be blazing hot.

There are no hotels, but there are a few lodges that overflow with 100% country elegance. Staying up in Kula is like time traveling to a simpler place in history long forgotten. For Kula accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Eastside: Welcome to the jungle! East Maui weather tends to be muggy, damp and intensely tropical…in the best possible way.

In East Maui you’ll run into some of the island’s most memorable sights: vibrant double rainbows, powerful waterfalls, and thick trails filled with rustling bamboo and trees heavy with succulent island fruit like guavas, rose apples, and papayas. Things grow wild and strong here.

Unfortunately, pests like mosquitoes and rodents are hip on the East Maui scene as well. So, if you squeal like a pig at the sight of a rat or break out into hives with every mosquitoes bite, you might want to reconsider adopting East Maui as your home away from home.

The weather is warm, the air is thick, and the ground is damp—kind of like one big greenhouse. East Maui is Maui in its most raw form. You’ll find flower farmers, fruit stands and barefoot kids engaged in rotten guava fights (serious business to an eight year old) around every bend.

The land becomes more and more secluded and pure the closer you get to Hana from the “more or less” domesticated East Maui town of Haiku. There are no hotels outside of the high-class Hotel Hana, but you’ll find a lot of bed and breakfasts and vacation rentals.

Travelers beware….East Maui has a tendency toward pulling the “Lord of Flies” spirit out of people. You just may find your savage self and never want to come back to modern day life.

The only downfall that East Maui has is that you are so far away from everything else. It’s a great place to spend a few days of your vacation but as far as staying anywhere East of Haiku, don’t plan on it for the entirety of your stay. You don’t want to spend a third of your hard earned vacation cooped up getting motion sick from winding roads in your rental car… For East Maui accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Central: Central Maui—Kahului, Wailuku and Ma’alaea, is located on the isthmus between East and West Maui. Kahului and Ma’alaea are located at sea level. This means hot, dry weather that is similar to Kihei. Wailuku has a slightly higher elevation (331 feet) and is a lot cooler and cloudier than the rest of Central Maui.

The good thing about lodging down centrally is that you’re pretty close to just about everything. The bad thing about it is that you’re going to be submersing yourself into an area of the island that doesn’t take much time to cater to tourists. With the exception of Ma’alaea, Central Maui is not a vacation section of the island, it’s more of a real-life, going to work kind of place…and that’s what you’re trying to escape, right?

Ma’alaea would be your best choice…the closest thing to a resort town that you’ll find down here. Down by Ma’alaea Bay, there are nice views of the ocean, Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains. Over the past decade, Ma’alaea has gone from sleepy little community with a few condos, and a couple of restaurants to quite a happening little spot…shopping, activities and the famous Maui Ocean Center.

For Ma’alaea accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Second choice when it comes to staying in Central Maui would be Wailuku. Wailuku is a town that is rich with history. It’s a town that even with all of its recent development has remained quite the same…old plantation houses, old theatre buildings, the Bailey House museum (preserved missionary house) old, old, old… Wailuku is filled with local people and it is where the County Building, Maui Community Correctional Center, and State Building are located.

The pros for staying in Wailuku are for its quirky, local-style, and no BS type of atmosphere. The cons are the same as the above. Also, there are certain nooks and crannies of Wailuku that you just really don’t want to find yourself lost in. Some locals, especially those that feel slighted by “foreigners” would not take it lightly if they feel that their personal space is being trampled on. As a side note, what they deem their “personal space” can vary daily, so tread softly.

Wailuku has some comfortable and clean places to stay—no resorts or hotels. Do your research and ask a lot of questions. Remember that while most places in Wailuku are relatively affordable, if the price sounds too good to be true it probably is. You get what you pay for. For Wailuku accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Kahului is not the Hawaii that you see advertised, and it is not the Maui that you dream of at night. It’s functional and practical. There is nothing luxurious about it. Now, don’t get me wrong…there are lots of things to do in Kahului—movies, shopping, eating…but there’s no added flare. There is a strip of little hotels that offer an okay night’s stay, but with all of the other great places to be on the island, why stay in a motel on the side of one of Maui’s most congested roads? Also, these motels may advertise that they are “beach front” but in reality they are “harbor” front. The harbor is not the cleanest place in the world and these motels are local icons for a random night’s stay of partying and (dare I mention it?) “affairs”. Trust me on this one…harsh as it may sound, it’s the truth. Ask any local if they’ve ever stayed at one of these places and if you get a nod, you’ll also get a telltale grin. If you’re dead set on it, check our Recommendation List for Kahului hotels.

Westside: The west side of the island—Lahaina, Ka’anapali, Honokowai, Kahana, Napili, and Kapalua, is a popular and fantastic place to stay on Maui. When the weather on the rest of the island is less than optimal, the west side usually holds up its end of the “I came to Maui for some sunshine” bargain.

The beaches are clean, the shopping is fun, the people are friendly, the lodgings are high-class and the history is rich. What more can you ask for? How about access to just about every activity there is—from horse back riding to sunset and cocktail sails? How about good music and fun bars? How about world-renowned shows? A round of some of the snazziest golf on the planet, anyone? You name it…the Westside has got it.

Lahaina is an old whaling town and used to be the capitol of Hawaii back in the day (until 1840 when King Kamehameha moved the capitol to Honolulu). The beaches are popular with the local’s…consistent waves and good swimming. Lahaina is hot, dry and dusty. It’s a great place to eat shaved ice and wander around on a lazy day.

There is so much to do in Lahaina, and you can find most of these things on Front Street. Front Street goes on for a few blocks and is filled with shops and restaurants that cater to tourists…mostly tourists with money. It’s a fun place to shop and mingle, with beautiful people (and even parrots) lining the sides of the road.

There are a lot of nice places to stay at in Lahaina, from the moderately priced condo to an old time luxury inn; you’ll have no problem finding somewhere that meets your needs.

As you drive further west from Lahaina the next spot that you’ll hit is Ka’anapali. Ka’anapali is translated “rolling cliffs” and while it is hot and dry like Lahaina, there is more foliage and therefore tends to be a little bit (teensy bit) cooler.

Ka’anapali has some of the most pristine swimming and snorkeling spots on the island. Shopping is fun, and the restaurants are reputable. Prices out in Ka’anapali tend to be comparable to Lahaina, meaning a little more than most of the island, a little less than Kapalua.

There are no shortages of hotels and condos to choose from in Ka’anapali…most are pricey, but all are worth the stay. For Lahaina and Ka’anapali accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Honokowai and Napili have been called the “Kihei” of West Maui. This is due to the towns’ high condo content. Both tend to be more affordable than the other places in West Maui (but still not budget). There’s not too much in the ways of shopping, but this can be a good thing if you want some peace and quiet while still being a hop real close to the hustle and bustle of Lahaina.

Honokowai has a beach with tide pools that is ideal for little kids, and Napili has a few really beautiful beaches that are ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

There are tons and tons of condos in this area and a few nice hotels that are generally low-key and laid back while still providing quality accommodations for travelers. For Honokowai and Napili accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

Kapalua is first class, high class, and popular with the celebrities and golfers. Kapalua is home to some of the most prestigious golf courses and resorts on the island. Kapalua tends to be cooler and definitely lusher than the other areas of the Westside. Locals think that it has a climate that is closer to Upcountry than West Maui.

Kapalua looks like money and have no doubt that it’s going to take a lot of the green-stuff to stay out here. It’s worth it. Kapalua is like south Maui’s Wailea. It took a heck of a lot of money to plan and build, even more to maintain it, and has a fancy reputation to uphold, so expect to financially contribute to its beautification.

Restaurants? Only the best. Cuisine from around the world. There is no doubt that even the pickiest food critic in the world would never utter a negative word about the menus offered in this resort town.

Beaches? Oh yeah, don’t worry about the beaches. They are well behaved, not over crowded and clean. There’s nothing more to say besides the fact that Kapalua is Maui at its finest.

To feel like a million bucks and/or to blow a million bucks stay in Kapalua. It’s like being royalty, and we all deserve that once in a while. For Kapalua accommodation suggestions see our Recommendation List.

I see only two problems with staying out on the Westside. The first problem is that there is no hospital out there. I know it’s not something that you want to think about on your vacation, but believe me; it’s going to be a huge deal to you if you find yourself or a loved one in a medical emergency during your stay. The second problem is that if there is a car accident on the Pali (the main way to the West Side) and the road is shut down you can be stuck in traffic with no way out for hours. Literally, hours…like a very long and frustrating time. It’s gotten so bad in the past that people turned off their engines and started tailgating with fellow would-be-drivers…no joke. Now put the hospital and the traffic problem together and you have a super bad situation. Although unlikely, it is something to be aware of.

No matter where you will end up staying, Maui Weddings are the best. If you are having a Maui Wedding reception you want to stay in South Maui.

May I Marry Your Daughter :: Fathers feelings

A day like any other when my phone rang - My daughter's boyfriend was calling! Last time he called me was when he reported a bad accident my daughter was in. I answered the phone hesitantly and after a few words said, he asked me for my daughters hand.

The conversation took "guts,". "It was a respectful thing to do.
In my social circle, it's not so much literally asking the dad for her hand in marriage, but rather more a matter of formality and respect.

I had no idea what to say at that moment - I held back my tears of joy - my recordings went on rewind as I played back all I remembered of her - of how she grew up, how her life transitioned from then to now. I also replayed my memories I have of her boyfriend - how he first asked her on his knees with a rose in his hand once before and now 8 years later she finally said YES this past Wednesday "their anniversary".

As I sit here ( with tears running down my face ) and try to write,
the day slips softly into night. It seems I can never find the words, I never know where to start. It's impossible to express the feelings, I have for you in my heart. I hope the following says it all. I love you!

You'll never really know, my dear,
Just how much you mean to me,
A mother's love, buried so deep,
That only my heart can see.

When I sit and really stare at you,
All I can do is grin,
Somewhere down deep inside,
I see myself within.

I'd never change a thing in you,
I thank God that your so fine,
Even when your at your worst,
I'm so proud that you are mine.

The roads we have traveled,
were not always that good,
I would take back all the pain you've felt,
Only if I could.

I know that I'm not perfect,
It's the best that I can do,
But everyday, I thank the lord,
For a daughter as special as you.

I gave him my blessing and hope that they will share the rest of their lives together.

The Seven Myths about having your wedding on Maui Hawaii

1. It will cost more than a wedding on the mainland.

2. I can do it cheaper if I coordinate it myself.

3. The weather is always perfect on Maui.

4. Any beach on Maui will be fine.

5. I've got plenty of time to handle all the details.

6. Back up plans aren't necessary.

7. They must be honest - I found them on their name on the Internet.

Anyone have an answer to these myths? I'd love to read what you have to say. I of course will reply to your post and agree or give you my answer.

Our choice of a florist will affect your photos

Our photographer also has an interest in your engaging a good florist (who arrives well before the photographs are scheduled to start). I have seen beautiful light and settings lost because of floral delays: the florist, a friend of the family, was late, perhaps because he/she hadn't realized how long it would takes to prepare that many bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. Or the boutonnieres arrive without labels, or without pins. Or, the volunteer florist puts the boutonnieres on the wrong lapel, or upside down!

Consider how floral design and placement will affect your guests and photos!

For example, tall centerpieces can create problems for guests and photographers. The arrangements may look gorgeous when you enter the Maui Wedding reception, but once the guests are seated, tall centerpieces get in the way of people seated around the table, affect speeches, group dynamics, and interfere in any candid or formal photographs done at the table.

LIVE MAUI WEBCASTING

Don't cut down on your guest list! Now you can invite all of your friends and family to witness your ceremony as it happens here on Maui with Live Stream Webcasting!
How it works:
Working with your selected videographer, we utilize the latest technology to immediately feed the video of your ceremony to a web page on the Internet. This page is then available for viewing by family and friends. They will witness the event in REAL TIME!

The web page is password protected, so only individuals selected by you will be able to see the action.

Ordering the Live Stream Webcasting service also entitles you to a CD-ROM so you can view your event from your desktop, or make copies for relatives (CD Read/Write drive required). If needed, additional copies of your CD Rom can be included at a reasonable cost. Please visit Paradise Maui Weddings for more details.

All inclusive Maui wedding package

Good afternoon Klaus,

I just wanted to express how grateful Helene and I were for the way you and your team planned and managed our wedding three weeks ago. Booking something as important as your wedding on the internet demands an enormous amount of faith.
The people you assembled for our wedding were both professional and friendly…you have no idea how much Helen and I enjoyed the whole experience.

As the wedding progressed we lost sight of some of the participants and did not express our thanks…please extend our thanks to all when you next see them.

You should also know that the video and the still photographs were both excellent.

Once again our sincere thanks for creating a wonderful memory.

(We have tried in vain to find and purchase music by Ron Kuala’au but have had no luck, even the people at the Maui Prince we unable to help. Do you have a way that we might contact him directly?

If you like to have a Maui Wedding then please consider Paradise Maui Weddings for your destination.

Best regards

Alan

NIGHT LIFE (WHEN THE REST OF MAUI GOES TO SLEEP)

Maui goes to bed very early.  After nine there just isn’t much to do besides catch a late movie or head out for a few drinks.

Unlike Oahu, which has the tendency to rock all night long, we have only one club that is open until 4 in the morning, and then only on Fridays and Saturdays.  The rest of them, even the best of them have last call at 1:30, and the lights come up by two.

So, if you’re planning a night of alcoholic obliveration, don’t wait until midnight to get started.  And remember, on a week day, the only dancing until dawn that you’ll be doing is next to the mini bar in your hotel room.

On Maui, we have a few different type of night life options:  The sports bar,  Korean bar, theme bar, independent night club, resort clubs and bars, and “you’ve entered the twilight zone” hole-in-the-wall little hovels (sometimes the most fun).

Each offers something different in the form of entertainment and ambiance.  For recommendations please see our Tiny Bubbles section.  Also, check back with mauiqueen.com as we will soon be posting a weekly “night life” events guide.

Choosing a Maui wedding site location

If you're looking for something small, informal and romantic, then consider a Maui wedding on the beach at sunset. Ceremonies on the beach and in public parks also have the added advantage of being free, compared to the location fees charged at Maui's private estates and churches. Be prepared to be flexible though, and have a backup location in the case of rain. If you're curious about the weather on Maui, a good site to visit is Maui Weather Today.

Or maybe you're the adventurous type? A number of Maui wedding planners on the island offer helicopter trips to romantic, secluded locations, private boat charters, weddings on horseback, or even underwater weddings.
If you know of a great location, be sure to email us with the details!

THE KAMA’AINA DISCOUNT

Another thing that you will encounter on Maui is the “kama’aina discount”. Some activity companies, accommodations and restaurants offer a discount to locals with a Hawaii State driver’s license. This discount usually runs between 5-20% of normal prices.

Some visitors have a hard time with this. It doesn’t really seem fair, you know? Remember that under no circumstances are you paying more than the regular price, just the normal.

The kama’aina discount started as a way to draw in local business during the slow season. Also, tourism and the things that go with it is the biggest “business” in Maui…we’re surrounded by it daily, so it’s nice to be able to participate in the fun (while still being able to pay the rent) once in a while.

JAWS AND OTHER THINGS THAT BITE

I still hear the theme music of Jaws when I go to the beach. Man, that movie scared me like nothing else…it drove my parents crazy. Here I was, a tan little local kid, petrified of swimming in the ocean.

Naturally, I got over it. Well, almost over it. Here are the facts: Your chances of getting attacked by a shark are slim. About six million people get into Hawaiian waters countless times a year. According to the Shark Research Program at the Florida Museum of Natural History, from 1820-2001 there were 101 reported shark attacks in Hawaii. Twenty percent of these proved fatal.

So while you probably won’t become shark bait, it is always best to take precautionary measures.

The Hawaii Shark Task Force recommends the following to help reduce your chances of a shark attack: don’t swim alone, swim in guarded areas, avoid swimming at dusk, don’t bleed into the ocean (not even a little, ladies), avoid murky waters, don’t wear brightly colored jewelry or high contrasting colors (buh-bye hot pink and orange bikini and bling-bling), don’t swim if sharks are known to be present (signs will usually be posted if the State is aware of the sightings), be alert if turtles and fish are fleeing the area, and remove speared fish from the ocean promptly (if you’re spear fishing).

Humpback Whales return to Maui

Winter is whale season. According to Missy Spratt of the Pacific Whale Foundation, whale watches are conducted December through May, but the peak of the season hits in the months of February and March.

The week after Christmas we tend to have a big surge of tourists coming into the island. I guess, like our friends the whales you have some free time to come and escape the “real” cold. There tends to be a lot of families who bring the kids over for the tail end of Christmas break.

Crowds can mean that certain activities may be challenging to book due to space limitations and small Bed and Breakfast’s and vacation rentals may be full…If you plan on scheduling your vacation during the winter, book your activities and accommodations well in advance.

On a positive note, the winter crowds can be an exciting and enlightening experience for the social butterfly. You will be sure to meet fellow travelers from around the world. The more the merrier, right?

2009 Maui Weddings in Hawaii

It's that time of year again, now that I'm looking forward to what's going to be hip and hot in 2009.
If you're planning a destination wedding to Maui Hawaii, you're probably wondering what will be trendy and hip. There's no denying that 2009 Maui Weddings will be heavily influenced by two things!

The economy. It is tiring to be constantly talking about how the economy will impact your life, but based on our inquires, I'm already seeing ways in which a smaller budget has inspired couples to have more creative, intimate, and personal weddings here on Maui Hawaii. (You are in luck as we have the most affordable maui wedding package ;-) )

Chic style will be the second influence I'd say. Rather than large maui weddings, where cost cutting means a lack of details or fun, the 2009 Maui weddings can be full of fabulous details meant for smaller, affordable maui Weddings in Paradise.

Live Maui Wedding Broadcasting

As the New Year approaches, my former student who I trained in web casting left Maui for a none wedding related job and just as we did before "Maui Live Wedding web cast or broadcast" whatever you like to call it is back for Paradise Maui Weddings to handle. You might as well bookmark the site below and keep us in mind for your live maui wedding broadcast as we are not going anywhere. As far as I know, there are only two remaining services available on maui for live web casting that means Paradise Maui Weddings and ONE other private individual that I know of. I sure hope my former student returns, but based on his message on his blog ea.

What does that mean for live wedding web cast operations back on Maui? Well, we will be working on a more limited schedule through April and might not be able to accommodate everyone.

I just don't know what will come of this. I would hate for him to spend 2k on a round trip ticket from New York to Maui for a $400 dollar gig or so. Would you?We are still here not going anywhere so reserve you live wedding web cast through "Paradise Maui Weddings Live Broadcast" while others leave the island Paradise Maui is always there for the brides like we have been since 1998.

Happy New Year

Paradise Maui Weddings in Hawaii

Our favorite suggestions:
Relax and unwind with a romantic massage at a spa. Get in the mood with a private sunset charter for two. Watch the sunrise from atop Haleakala Crater. Kick back with an Island Limo Tour - choose one which has a license to serve champagne. Embark on a romantic dinner cruise - and don't forget a fragrant floral lei to present to your partner at sunset! Explore secluded snorkeling spots. Hire a private guide and explore the island. Enjoy a catered dinner for two on the beach. Bring your cameras and capture every tender moment!

HONEYMOON TIP:
Granted, a honeymoon is meant for two, but it's a good idea to establish your independence right from the get-go! Schedule a day for yourself while on your honeymoon. This gives you both time to breathe – to put things in perspective during what has probably been a whirlwind of boundless emotional highs and lows and nervous excitement for your new beginnings. For the men, this might mean a day of sportfishing or 18 holes of golf at one of Maui's numerous championship golf courses, for the women a day of exquisite pampering at a world-class spa, a quiet drive upcountry followed by a tour of Tedeschi vineyards winery, or simply a day with a good book or the newspaper. Whatever you decide, this day for yourself is just that: something YOU want to do. Not what your spouse, parents or friends THINK you should do. Think about it. You're coming to Maui!!! You've always imagined yourself ......

IMPORTANT:
Discuss this "day of solitude" with your partner, and agree to it beforehand! There's no need for hurt feelings during this once-in-a-lifetime trip. Let's face it. The last thing someone wants is to feel ditched on what should be the most romantic vacation of their lives!! Besides, your partner will surely agree if you approach the subject in a sensitive manner.

Hawaii Weddings on Maui

What are "Authentic" Hawaii Weddings?

Good question! Truth is, because early Hawaiians had no written language, we have no way for knowing for sure what was involved in a typical Hawaiian marriage ceremony. It is believed that the formal marriage ceremony was reserved only for the Ali'i (royal class). Unfortunately, the Hawaiian wedding ceremonies offered today are largely based on speculation.

Most companies offering Hawaiian wedding packages are designing your special day around a central theme of Hawaiian “Aloha” – the expression of love and respect for each other, for the earth and all her bounty.

Many Hawaiian weddings include:

* A Beach or Garden setting.
* An officiant who may or may not perform a Hawaiian blessing in the Hawaiian language in addition to the English ceremony.
* Exchange of Leis. Traditionally, grooms wear a maile leaf lei which can be worn alone or woven with ilima.
Brides frequently wear the fragrant pikake (white jasmine) which can also be entwined with maile.
* Some ceremonies include Hawaiian music and the blowing of the conch.

Sunset or Daytime Maui weddings?

A Hawaiian wedding on the beach at sunset! How romantic! The heat of the day rises up through the warm, white sand; the afternoon trades have died down to a gentle breeze; the crowds have thinned; the sun drops gently beyond the horizon, filling the azure sky with brilliant trails of vibrant orange and gold.

If family and friends will be attending your wedding on Maui, and you're planning your wedding outdoors, pay special attention to where your guests will be seated. If they are sitting facing directly into the setting sun they will have a difficult time watching your ceremony!

Green Weddings - Earth Friendly Maui Weddings

Don't think having an earth-friendly wedding means sacrificing style!" Couples are thinking of their future families and how they can do something kind for the planet with this occasion. The new thinking, is "looking at the wedding as a way to do something really beautiful but not waste." Hawai'i is a very ecologically friendly place anyway. ... It's great they're thinking along those lines."..... and so do we

What's the best time for a Maui Wedding in Hawaii?

The Crowds:
The busiest time of year in Hawaii is between January through April. The last week of December, through January 5 (Christmas & New Years) is the absolute busiest period. If you're planning a beach wedding, do not expect to have the beach to yourself. All beaches in Hawaii are public.

The Weather:
The weather on Maui between January - April is exceptional. November - December is considered the "rainy" season, so by January everything is lush, green and "tropical". The south end of the island (Kihei and Wailea) generally receives less rain than other parts of Maui.

It is also considerably cooler during the winter in Hawaii, which will make a difference if you're planning on being dressed to the nine's! On the other hand, there is absolutely nothing more romantic than a walk on the beach beneath the stars on a balmy summer night! August and September tend to be hot and dry, with temperatures averaging between 85-90ºF during the day, and 60-70ºF in the evening.

University of Hawaii Professor Gives Lecture on Hawaiian Culture

I was excited to hear that Dr. Sankaran Krishna of The University of Hawaii was coming as a guest lecturer in November.

Since he's coming, I decided to brush up on my Hawaiian history. (I've always been fascinated with Hawaiian culture anyway).

For those of you who want to learn more about Hawaii, there are some good books out there.

There are many great books on Hawaii's history, but one of the best places to start is with the formation of the Hawaiian islands, vividly described in David E. Eyre's "By Wind, By Wave: An Introduction to Hawaii's Natural History" (Bess Press, 2000).

I encourage all serious writers and historians to attend.

Maui Weddings in Hawaii

Should you use a Maui wedding planner?

Unless you are familiar with what Maui has to offer, a full service wedding coordinator is highly recommended. Besides making all the arrangements for you (something to consider if you're trying to make phone calls from a different time zone and racking up huge long distance phone charges to Hawaii in the process), the cordinator will be able to keep an eye on costs.
It’s natural to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of wedding companies on Maui. How do you choose? To be honest, the final choice will probably come down to pure, gut instinct. My personal tip to finding the best Maui wedding planner for your event.
Your choice of Maui wedding planners will ultimately come down to the personal relationship between you and your prospective planner. Some brides-to-be even fly out to Hawaii to interview potential candidates. For most, this is a cost prohibitive option, so be sure you use your phone time constructively and follow your instincts.

Helpful Tips For The Bride & Groom

Your plane has just touched down in Hawaii and your wedding is just days away. The lovely "wahine" at the rental car agency has handed you the keys to the convertible, words like "aloha" and "mai tai" are starting to roll off your tongue and for some reason the two of you just can't stop smiling. Beginning at this moment, the following beauty and grooming tips are offered for both of you - some obvious, some "only in Hawaii".

If at all possible, stay out of the sun until after your wedding. With the top down, the tropical sun will burn you in the short half-hour drive from the airport to the resorts as well as just taking a stroll down the street. And even as professional as our photographers are, they are powerless to remove seat belt strap lines from your wedding photographs. If however, the lure of the beach proves irresistible, cover yourselves all over with the highest sunscreen you can find.

Also the bride should check her bathing suit straps against her wedding gown. The bride and groom should beware of neck and shoulder burn from tank tops while cruising around the beautiful island.

Avoid hair styles that leave loose strands hanging down the sides of your face. While these hair styles are flattering in the hair salon, as soon as you walk outside to your wedding site, you will be confronted with Hawaii's secret to a balmy climate - the island trade winds. And again, while wedding photographers can restage formal poses, they are helpless if the bride has loose hair blowing across her face during the ceremony. While the trades are wonderful for blowing away tropical heat and humidity, they can turn a veil into a sail. An alternative to the veil is the beautiful Haku lei Hawaiian brides wear in their hair. The flowers are both flattering and traditional.

Pedicures and manicures for the bride should be done the day prior to her wedding, thus insuring her beautiful hands and feet do not get smudged.

Don't forget the groom. Before the wedding the groom should join his bride for a manicure. During your ceremony, one of the shots the photographer will be most diligent about is the exchange of wedding rings. In fact, to ensure a memorable photo, many photographers will have you rehearse putting on the rings before the ceremony. When the camera zooms in for a close-up, you can both be assured your hands will be as attractive as your rings.

Locations versus the style of shoes worn by the bride are often confronted by high heels getting stuck in the sand and the bride sinking into the sand and ruining a gorgeous pair of shoes. Keep the heels in the car and bring sandals to wear if at a beach location.

After your ceremony you probably will want dinner. Your coordinator can arrange for a romantic dinner on the beach or give suggest one of many fine dining establishments as well as mak the reservations.

If you are thinking of a luau after your wedding, it is sometimes difficult if you are having a sunset ceremony, as they both start at the same time. Usually it is best to plan a luau either before your wedding day or after it.

MOST OF ALL, DON'T STRESS, RELAX AND ENJOY YOUR STAY! ALOHA
